Chipotle and Urban Roots are teaming up to show Queen of the Sun, an exploration of the global bee crisis and what we can do about it. “Taking us on a journey through the catastrophic disappearance of bees and the mysterious world of the beehive, this engaging and ultimately uplifting film weaves an unusual and dramatic story of the heartfelt struggles of beekeepers, scientists and philosophers from around the world including Michael Pollan, Gunther Hauk and Vandana Shiva. Together they reveal both the problems and the solutions in renewing a culture in balance with nature."
Bees are a major component of sustainable agriculture, and they are just one piece of a larger puzzle. Following the movie, we will hold a panel to discuss the local barriers to sustainable agriculture here in Austin, as well as creative solutions. The panel will be moderated by Dorsey Barger of Hausbar Farms (formerly of East Side Café), a local champion of small sustainable farming.
Panelists will include:
Two Urban Roots Youth Interns
Max Elliott, Executive Director of Urban Roots
Ashley Rezai, Marketing Strategist of Chipotle
We hope you’ll join us for an inspiring movie and a lively discussion!
Proceeds from the event will benefit Urban Roots, a youth development agency that uses sustainable agriculture to transform the lives of youth and increase access to healthy, sustainable food in Austin. To learn more about Urban Roots, visit www.urbanrootsatx.org.
